Hungry Ghost Moon, July Moon, Chinese Collection

I watched a horror movie about hungry ghosts, so this moon really spooked me out. I picture a black void consuming all the energy in its vicinity. This print is the nineteenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Lotus Moon, June Moon, Chinese Collection

This moon challenged me. I love the idea of a lotus, but to be honest I don’t love how they look. The sharpness of their petals put me off a bit; perhaps that is why it came out looking kind of cartoonish. This print is the eighteenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Dragon Moon, May Moon, Chinese Collection

This moon challenged me. I love the idea of a lotus, but to be honest I don’t love how they look. The sharpness of their petals put me off a bit; perhaps that is why it came out looking a bit cartoonish. Peony Moon, April Moon, Chinese Collection

Peonies are so lovely, and I always look forward to their blooms. I live in a place now that is too cold to grow peonies, so I really enjoyed combing through pictures of these magical buds to prepare to paint this moon. This print is the seventeenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Yes, I love to sleep. It feels so good. This moon is whimsical and simple, but I love it because it makes me feel cozy when I look at it. Budding Moon, February Moon, Chinese Collection

Buds give me hope- I know I keep saying this for almost every February or March moon, but this late winter/not quite spring time is one of the very most difficult for me emotionally. That is why I put the little buds of hope on a blue background. This print is the fifteenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Holiday Moon, January, Chinese Collection

I lived in Seoul South Korea for a year and one of my favorite things was visiting the old town during the holidays (especially during the Chinese New Year) and seeing colorful lanterns hung all around, what magical beauty! I understand fully that Korea is not China, and that their cultures are wildly diverse, but after some googling I saw that these colorful lanterns can be found in Chinese celebrations as well. This print is the fourteenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Cold Moon, December, Farmer's Almanac

This was another moon that I found a little uninspiring, but I think it ended up looking cold thanks to the luminous quality of the india inks that I used. December is usually a fun month, between holidays and first snows, but cold is a very straightforward way to describe it. This print is the thirteenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Beaver Moon, November, Farmer's Almanac

My Grandmother hates beavers, she destroys their dams whenever she can. She says that they ruin the pond on our little farm in Southern Illinois. I always liked beavers, they made me think of Narnia. I always imagine that their dams are cozy inside and filled with cakes and tea. This conflict shows in my painting of the beaver moon, I think they are cute and cozy, but their little hands and caracaturish smiles are creepy and help me understand my Grandmother’s point of view. Also, as a non sequitur it is always fun to use dam as a cuss, and drawing this moon gave me opportunity to take full advantage of that. This print is the twelfth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint

Hunter's Moon, October, Farmer's Moon

I am a Sagittarius, so of course it is necessary for me to have a centaur hunter for this Hunter’s Moon. I chose bright warm colors in the spirit of Autumn, my favorite season which is at its height when this full moon rolls around. This print is the eleventh in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Corn Moon, September Moon, Farmer's Almanac

My mother grew up in Illinois, so trips to Grandma’s involved driving past miles and miles of cornfields. Most of the central Unites States is covered in corn, and there is a distinctly American beauty to these expanses. I considered and appreciated this as I painted the corn moon. This print is the tenth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Sturgeon Moon, August Farmer's Almanac

This is the Sturgeon Moon, I knew nothing about Sturgeon until I tasked myself with making this moon. They are used for caviar, and they can have really beautiful color variants. Late summer is a good time for a Sturgeon moon, I think of long hot lazy days with my Daddy fishing in a pond. This print is the seventh in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Buck Moon, July Farmer's Almanac

This is the Buck Moon. Deer are one of my spirit animals, and I dream of them often. I was very excited (and slightly intimidated) to create this one, a grand old buck to welcome the height of summertime. This print is the sixth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures. Strawberry Moon, June Farmer's Almanac

For me the Strawberry Moon ALWAYS ushers in big changes. It tends to set off a period of intense forward momentum for me, I remember last year it coincided with some really brave career moves for me. I enjoyed reflecting on this as I attempted to paint a moon that looked edible and delicious. This print is the sixth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures.
