Beaver Moon, November, Farmer's Almanac
My Grandmother hates beavers, she destroys their dams whenever she can. She says that they ruin the pond on our little farm in Southern Illinois. I always liked beavers, they made me think of Narnia. I always imagine that their dams are cozy inside and filled with cakes and tea. This conflict shows in my painting of the beaver moon, I think they are cute and cozy, but their little hands and caracaturish smiles are creepy and help me understand my Grandmother’s point of view. Also, as a non sequitur it is always fun to use dam as a cuss, and drawing this moon gave me opportunity to take full advantage of that.
This print is the twelfth in my moon manual project, I have committed to paint 62 full moons representing five different cultures.
